About UsOur goal is to provide special people with an opportunity to have fun and forget for a day!
We offer a UNIQUE service that allows you to turn an empty seat into a great opportunity! Do you have tickets but can't go....can't sell....hate to let them go to waste? Do you have an event that you would like to share? Forget for a Day can help you "recycle" your tickets into a great gift giving opportunity - you CAN make a difference in someone’s life!! It is a win for everyone We are not a charity organization but do share our opportunities with charity organizations such as Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan, Penrickton Center for Blind Children, Operation Injured Soldiers, Methodist Children's Home, Veteran organizations and with children that have disabilities who would otherwise never get a chance to attend a game. We are huge Detroit sports fans and appreciate the support we have received from the Red Wings, Hockeytown Cafe and the Tigers!!. Please note: the charities will typically issue a "Like Kind" Donation form for tax purposes |
Our Story |
This all went into motion, in 2006, when Red Wing Captain Steve Yzerman announced his retirement. We had just given up our DRW season tickets the season before so the mission was on to get tickets for this event!
When the ceremony date was announced my excitement was such that I thought what a great idea it would be to get a suite so we can celebrate with family and friends. Made the call to the Red Wings to book the suite!! Surprise.....in order to get a suite for the retirement, a 3 game suite package had to be purchased. Armed with a 0% credit card I said charge it!! The challenge came when everyone was okay with chipping in for the retirement game but not the other 2 games. This resulted in my husband asking "and why did we do this?" Not often a wife has to defend a sporting event purchase but that was where I was at! Soon the answer would present itself, just not in a way we could have ever anticipated! Driving home from work one day, I heard an announcement for a charity event for Ilitch's Charities with Yzerman being the special guest. We were able to make the most of this opportunity when we had the chance to speak with Steve. I shared with him my dilemma and asked if I donated the suites to a local kids charity would he show up for a visit. He instantly agreed to do so, if he was in the arena, and pointed out the Community Relations Manager to set it up with.....this was the next step in the mission that would become Forget for a Day! We hosted families from Children's Leukemia Foundation for the first 2 games and Steve showed up for both!!! All total he showed up at 5 of the first 6 games we hosted prior to him leaving for Tampa Bay. Yes, the first 2 games made such an impact we decided to purchase additional games! The name "Forget for a Day" was inspired from a "thank you" card from one of our first guests. Her comment "thank you for allowing me to have fun and forget for a day" was our encouragement to know we were on the right path and this was what all this was meant to become! It was crazy how all of this fell into place! We truly never could have imagined the impact this would have on our lives. We like to say that we may be in the driver's seat but we are not driving this bus!! Life is so short and making memories is so important! |
